ECC82 / 12AU7 Substitutes (2 JJ Variations)

• ECC82 – Medium-gain 12AU7, delivers a smooth, balanced sound with well-defined tones.
• ECC802S – medium-gain 12AU7 featuring a long-plate design, producing a rich, full sound + extended low end + clear, detailed highs.

ECC83 / 12AX7 Substitutes (4 JJ Variations)

• 5751 – Lower gain than a standard 12AX7, it’s ideal for taming high-gain amplifiers. Can be used in most 12AX7 circuits to increase headroom.
• ECC83MG – A mid-gain 12AX7 featuring medium-long plates for fuller, richer mids. Offers a milder, more controlled sound than the standard ECC83, with very low noise and microphonics.
• ECC83S – A high-gain 12AX7. Designed for very low noise & microphonics. Delivers a harmonically rich tone with a detailed low end + warm, smooth highs.
• ECC803S – A higher gain  12AX7. A long-plate that provides a fuller, stronger sound compared to a regular 12AX7. Ideal for amps that need extra punch, with an aggressive character, tight low end, + a tone that cuts through the mix.

Pre-amp valves do not need to be matched — matching is mainly important for power valves in push-pull amplifiers, where mismatches can cause imbalance and distortion.
