- ELLIPTICAL DIAMOND stylus
- The ELLIPTICAL stylus (or needle) is the part that tracks the groove on your vinyl record. The Elliptical shaped diamond stylus bears a greater resemblance to the triangular shape of a record groove. It has greater contact with the groove and is therefore able to follow the groove oscillations more accurately than the spherical type of stylus tip. The result is improved frequency response, with less distortion and phase error. In contrast, a typical spherical stylus tip (similar to a ball point pen) has a larger radius and is subsequently in less contact with the oscillations in the record groove.
